Why hypnotherapy?

Throughout my years of counselling, I observed that anxiety and depression are not only rooted in our thoughts but also reside in our bodies. Many clients could clearly explain the reasons behind their struggles, identify their origins, and understand them intellectually, yet still found it difficult to overcome them.

Talking alone was often insufficient.

This inspired me to pursue training in Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy. My research revealed how hypnotherapy directly interacts with the brain's patterns and responses, affecting both the conscious mind and the nervous system. I often tell clients to think of their nervous system as a pot of water on a stove: in depression, it's barely simmering -lacking energy, drive, and a sense of possibility. In anxiety, it boils over -excessive and uncontrollable. Hypnotherapy helps to regulate this heat. It does more than address symptoms; it targets the fundamental patterns causing them.

What is Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy combines two evidence-based approaches:

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a future-oriented talking therapy that emphasises your strengths, resources, and desired outcomes rather than problems and their origins. Instead of asking "why are you struggling?" it inquires "what would your life be like? " It seems like things are improving -what small steps could help you make further progress?

Clinical Hypnosis involves entering a deeply relaxed, focused state called trance to foster openness to positive change. Throughout the process, you stay in full control. Trance is a natural state we all experience, such as the feeling just before falling asleep or when you're so immersed in an activity that your surroundings fade away. In hypnotherapy, we deliberately induce this state to soothe the nervous system and strengthen new patterns of thinking and responding.

Together, these approaches create lasting change that thinking or talking alone often can't achieve.

What to expect

A typical Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy course consists of six to twelve sessions, each lasting fifty minutes to an hour. The initial session is a consultation where we explore your experiences, goals, and understanding of hypnotherapy. Following sessions blend solution-focused discussions with guided trance work. Many clients experience changes in their feelings after only a few sessions. Hypnotherapy is offered in person in Dalston, E8, and online via Zoom. Studies indicate that online hypnotherapy is just as effective.

FAQs

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people describe trance as a deeply relaxed and pleasant state, like the feeling right before falling asleep. You stay aware and in control during this state. You cannot be coerced into doing or saying anything against your will.

Will I be unconscious or lose control?

No, hypnotic trance is not the same as sleep, and you won't lose awareness. You'll feel relaxed yet alert, and you can exit the trance whenever you choose.

What if I can't be hypnotised?

Most people are capable of achieving a useful trance state. The depth of trance differs among individuals, but even a light trance is enough for therapy. With practice, it becomes easier.

Is hypnotherapy effective online?

Yes - studies consistently demonstrate that online hypnotherapy is just as effective as in-person sessions. In fact, many clients find it easier to relax in their own environment.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people notice meaningful change after six to eight sessions. While some issues improve faster, others may require a longer course. We will regularly review your progress, and you always have control over how long we continue.
